THE WHITE PATCH HAD BECOME A PLACE OF DARKNESS

2008, Librairie Galerie l'Histoire de l'Oeil a Marseille, France

This piece has been inspired by a Japanese novel by Yoko Ogawa: Faufilage d'un Coeur (French traduction, Actes Sud 2004). The story is the one of a woman living with her heart set outside her body and yet perfectly functional. One day she decided to have it protected and asks the service of a bag maker to fabricate a bespoke heart case.

Besides the fact that this object resonates with my interest for anatomy, this work demonstrates the strong relationship I have with written and spoken language, emphasizing the specific power of literature enabling transformation of fiction into a form of reality in the reader's mind, and here, into an object of inquietante etrangeté.
