SUMMER SCHOOL
2000, Private Histories, Public Places, Summer School at the Serpentine Gallery for A-Level Sudents, London, U.K
Students will be drawing on their own personal narratives and histories to make an art piece, which suggests shared experience. They will be thinking about how their art can engage directly with others and exploring innovative ways to disseminate ideas.
We will be also looking at the work of other contemporary artists who deal with issues of private and collective experience. Students will work both individually and collectively in a broad range of media: photograph, writing, drawing, collage, video and installation work In addition to the Serpentine Gallery show, we will be visiting some of the other sites of Gonzales-Torres's work: print room at the V&A, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London billboard pieces, looking at how work, which is anti-monumental can function successfully outside of the gallery in a public space.
