A TABLE! (L’ART AU MENU)
2000, Exhibition at Villa du Parc, Annemasse, France
Decombe’s concerns are focused on the notion of relationship with other people through networks, both commercial and social, and with exchanges made or orders given. Within this framework of interactivity, the body participates in the mise en scène, the piece turning into a performance with the roles played by the artist or the public themselves. The result is a small object, which belongs either to the domestic world (cutlery, Thermos flasks), or to more intimate spheres (medallions, casts) made with her favourite materials; bee’s wax and human hair. The objects that can be ordered from the artist always refer to a relationship, which can be intimate or even passionate. The sentiment ”I love you, I eat you” can contain the thrill of latent possession or it evoke a symbolic cannibalism.
