<L’ART DE TRIOMPHE> (2024)

CREATIVITY COURSE (INCLUDING 2-WEEK TRIP IN PARIS) & EXHIBITION AT THE CATALYST (Oct 2023-July 2024)

Six months ago, 4 individuals crossed paths in a programme designed to literally take us away from here under the pretext of pursuing the meaning of successful art. Come 1st June 2024 we shall bear witness to the fruits of labour from these fab 4 who have barely survived the Gallic clutches that L’art de Triomphe programme had promised to deliver.

The resulting exhibition is a heterogeneous collective of works that will swerve our attentions to the secret history of the Jesuit order and its influence on modern day systematic removal of privacy in exchange of control; the transmogrification of one’s mental anguish and physical threats in the face of an ongoing real life hate campaign into a source of creative energy, and to reciprocate adversity in the name of art; the re-examination of one’s own personal identity through over reproduction and factory line serialisation until all trace of distinguishable feature is lost; to turbocharge the blurring of reality and mental perception with the oversaturating, misusing and abusing of everyday technology in an doomed attempt to attain the nirvana.

Their triumphant return show could just be the writing of a relatively new history of art through their broad and eclectic interpretations of these real and present dangers, and seriously calling into question what we have up to now defined and understood as art.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this exhibition are those of the artists and do absolutely and categorically reflect the views and opinions of any entities they represent. Thank you and goodnight.

Our Paris agents & collaborators:

LALE ROUBAUD, BLAISE CARDON-MIENVILLE, EMANUEL SAMPY, MARIE JOSEE PILLET, HELENE BIHERY, GUILLAUME CONSTANTIN, MARIE DUMORA, BANJEE, VALNOIR/ METASTAZIS, MARIJO DECOMBE, PASCALE MIENVILLE, FRANCOIS CARDON

L’Art de Triomphe
The Catalyst
Opening | 01 June 2024
Date | 01 June – 14 July 2024

Today, Paris is neither a dream nor reality. Overloaded with historical and cultural baggage as well as the many dubbed or subtitled mis/preconceptions, the tiny French capital has become an idea on steroid, turbo-charged and supersized – a parallel utopia runs by high res holographic simulation that creates and projects seamless desires while feedback and return instantaneous demands. It is, unequivocally, strangely beautiful.

L’Art de Triomphe, a Xevarion Institute and 3rd Wave joined initiative, is a programme where students will be offered a comprehensive creativity learning course starting October 2023; for 6 months, students will be exposed to various training, assignment, artist’s talk and workshop before their final graduation exhibition at the Catalyst gallery in Sheung Wan in summer 2024.

As part of the course curriculum, 3rd Wave invites you to go on a journey to experience – to feel, breathe and touch – this cultural hub in the far west of Europe. For 2 weeks in February 2024, participants will take up residence at the Glass Ceiling with living quarters and studio, and see Paris like a Parisian does. Due to the limited number of space available, L’art de Triomphe programme will be opened to 6 students only. Applicants will be encouraged to explore, experience and actively learn hands on the many effet étrangé, from overcoming language barriers, differing practical and cultural perspectives, to even conflicting aesthetic and clashing ideology at times. At 3rd Wave we believe true learning requires a holistic approach, objects in the mirror are always larger than they appear.
